Holy Week

Holy Week – the week that begins on Palm Sunday and ends with Easter Day, is the most important time of the year for Christians. From as early as the 4th century AD, Christians have remembered and celebrated the major events of Jesus' last days on earth: his arrest, trial, crucifixion and resurrection, as these events frame our deepest beliefs. Beginning with Palm Sunday – Jesus' triumphant entrance into Jerusalem that leads to his arrest and the beginning of these events, every part of our Christian story is told. Maundy Thursday commemorates Jesus' last supper with his disciples; on Good Friday, we remember Jesus' crucifixion and death; the Great Vigil of Easter is the pinnacle celebration, when the new light of Christ is brought into the darkened church and the whole of salvation history is recollected as we celebrate the resurrection. Easter Day is the continuation of the joy we feel as we complete our walk through this holiest week.
